Schema for Dealership Websites: Clearer Search Information; Less Manual Work

Schema for Dealership Websites: Clearer Search Information; Less Manual Work

By Turnkey Web Solutions | 30 September 2026

Your website serves several purposes: introducing your dealership, displaying inventory and helping customers contact your team or explore your services. Structured data helps search engines distinguish those purposes and interpret the facts on each page.

Turnkey Web Solutions has updated its schema implementation to connect business, website and page information more clearly, with additional detail for supported inventory pages. Most of the work happens automatically. When a page needs a more specific description of its purpose, your team can adjust its settings without editing code.

What is schema, and why does it matter?

Schema markup is a standardised way to label information in a web page’s code. It can identify a dealership’s address, a product’s brand or an offer’s price and availability. Turnkey uses JSON-LD, which adds this information behind the scenes without changing the page’s visual design.

These labels give search engines explicit context alongside the content visitors read. Google explains that structured data can help it understand pages and support certain enhanced search appearances.

For a dealership, the practical benefit is clearer information with less duplicate maintenance. Your team continues managing inventory and business facts in their existing editors, while the system uses the available data to build the revised Schema markup.

From a business profile to connected page information

A basic business block describes who you are and where you operate. That remains valuable, but a unit detail page needs more context than a homepage. The updated implementation connects the dealership, website and individual page through consistent identifiers, then adds supported information relevant to the page.

For example, a homepage can connect your business name, address, phone number and published weekly hours with the website and homepage description. An inventory detail page can identify the particular product, its brand, model, photos and stock number, and link its offer back to the dealership as the seller.

Repeating the dealership entity across pages is intentional: it keeps the business identity connected. The additional page and inventory entities explain what is specific to the page being viewed.

What the system generates automatically

Eligible public pages receive markup based on their content, available source data and saved configuration. Supported examples include:

  • Business and website information: a business entity, WebSite and page entity, including contact information and interpretable weekly opening hours when available.
  • About and Contact pages: AboutPage or ContactPage when the page is recognized automatically or assigned that purpose in the setup.
  • Inventory listings: CollectionPage to identify a recognised inventory listing page.
  • Inventory details: ItemPage connected to Product, with Vehicle or Motorcycle also used for recognised vehicle records. Supported identifiers and model-year information are included when available.
  • Service pages: a Service entity connected to the dealership, with an optional service area defined by your team.
  • Articles: BlogPosting for supported blog items or ordinary content pages configured as Article.

A page without a recognized special purpose can use WebPage. That is a valid general classification. Where a valid trail contains at least two entries, the system also adds breadcrumb markup.

Automatic output is intended for eligible public content. It is omitted in cases such as private pages, pages marked noindex, or pages where your team has disabled generated schema. Existing manually supplied core schema takes precedence over the automatic graph.

Inventory facts stay with the inventory record

Where a supported item has valid public pricing and currency, the system can generate an Offer containing its price, currency, availability, and condition. Availability is derived from the sold status and stock fields; the schema editor does not provide a separate availability override.

A “Call for Price” item is not turned into a zero-dollar offer. Hidden, missing or non-positive prices are also excluded from numeric offer markups. Model/showroom content is not treated as an offer for dealer stock.

When a unit is sold or repriced, update the inventory record as usual. Schema is assembled during page rendering from the available source data. Feed synchronization and caching can affect when changes reach the public page, and search engines decide when to recrawl it. There is no separate daily schema-editing task for your team. Our Systems do it all automatically – an industry first!

How to customize an individual page

Start with the automatic setup. If an ordinary content page needs a more specific purpose, an authorized editor can review it in a few steps:

  1. Open the page in the Website Editor and go to Page Settings.
  2. Below Meta Description, find Search information and click Review Setup.
  3. Keep Automatic (recommended), or choose Customize this page.
  4. Select the page purpose: General page, About us, Contact, Service page or Article. For a service page, optionally enter the places you serve.
  5. Click Save changes inside the setup window.

For example, a page called “Workshop and Maintenance” may need the Service page selection if its purpose is not recognized automatically. You can add the genuine service area, provided it agrees with the page’s content. Inventory, homepage and collection routes retain their dedicated classifications.

You can restore the automatic page settings or disable generated schema for that page. Disabling it does not hide the page from search or remove third-party markup. Meta titles and descriptions remain in the main Page Settings.

Business settings apply across the website

The expandable Business details section lets you review the business category, provide an optional business image URL and save official social profile links. These are website-wide settings, not separate facts to maintain on every page.

The Suggest links from this website button can help find social links already present on the site. Review the suggestions and save the official profiles you want included. Saved profiles are published through the same property.

The category label in the editor may differ from the technical schema type. Car dealership maps to AutoDealer and Motorcycle dealership to MotorcycleDealer. Marine and Mixed Powersports map to Store, a recognised LocalBusiness subtype; Schema.org has no dedicated MarineDealer or PowersportsDealer type.

Name, phone number and address continue to come from the dealer profile. Regular opening hours are maintained under Website Information, and inventory facts remain in the inventory editor. This avoids creating a second set of business or stock details inside the schema form.

What to expect from search engines

Structured data supports clear communication; it does not guarantee rankings, indexing, rich results or inclusion in AI answers. Useful content, accurate titles, crawlable pages and a good website experience remain essential. Google also states that its AI search features do not require special Schema.org markup.

Product search features have their own content, technical, and eligibility requirements. Older articles about Google’s dedicated Vehicle Listing structured data feature are no longer current: Google retired from that Search feature in 2025. For Canadian dealers, it is important to assess the requirements of the search features that are supported today.

This release preserves existing page URLs and canonical tags. The schema settings let you describe supported content more clearly without requiring a URL change.

A useful first review for your marketing team

Review your homepage, one inventory detail page and a Contact or Service page. Compare the published markup with the visible business details, price and availability. Use the Schema.org validator to inspect the wider markup and Google’s Rich Results Test for the search features it supports. Search Console reports cover supported enhancements, rather than every valid schema type.

If a fact is wrong, correct its source. If an ordinary page’s purpose needs clarification, use Review Setup. Keeping those responsibilities clear gives your team practical control while letting automatic generation handle the routine work.
